Metal Scrap Yards, Recyclers, and Municipalities
Virtually all refrigerated transport units currently are processed at scrap metal yards, where the blowing agent in the insulating foam is typically shredded and landfilled along with other nonferrous wastes.
A simple, convenient resource for removal and recycling of PUR, XPS, EPS and ISO foams from refrigerated transport units, building insulation, mattresses and other furniture, foam packaging, and other sources.
The issues can be especially acute when it comes to refrigerated transport units. As the EPA notes, the typical foam density in refrigerated intermodal containers is high, ranging from 40 to 45 kg/m3, to maintain temperatures over long distances and time periods. In fact, hold sizes on refrigerated ships are often 25-35% smaller than equivalent-sized non-refrigerated cargo ships, due to the thickness of the PU foam insulation required for the refrigerated systems. When these refrigerated intermodal units are scrapped, these bulky foams, which do not degrade easily, can consume significant landfill space, as well as creating environmental hazards if they are shredded or improperly compacted.
Blue Goblin’s unique mobile processing unit can come to your scrap yard or other aggregation facility and process waste foams on-site, thus clearing space and avoiding the need to landfill these items, while at the same time neutralizing the potentially harmful ODS gasses these items contain.
Blue Goblin can process all types of PUR, XPS, EPS and ISO foams from refrigerated transport units, building insulation, mattresses and other furniture, carpet pads, boats and floatation systems, foam packaging, and other sources.
